{mdm}Script™ 3.0 - Extending ActionScript® 1, 2 & 3
Zinc™ 3.0 introduces an all new API for Flash Application Development called {mdm}Script™ 3.0. {mdm}Script™ 3.0 provides a true Object Orientated approach to programming and is integrated directly with ActionScript® 1, 2 and 3. In addition, {mdm}Script™ 3.0 is completely synchronous which means that it works as if it were native to the standard Flash API. Completely re-written for 3.0, {mdm}Script™ 3.0 is now faster and more powerful than before.
{mdm}Script™ 3.0 - Characteristics at a Glance
- Integrates seamlessly with ActionScript® 1, 2 or 3
- Extends ActionScript with over 500* new Events, Methods and Properties
- Completely X-Platform across Windows, Mac OSX* and Linux*
- Works with Flash® 8 & 9 and Flex® 2 & 3
*Not all commands are supported in Mac OSX and Linux - Please see the Platform Specifications for more details.
{mdm}Script™ 3.0 - Usage
The {mdm}Script™ API was developed from the start as an extension to ActionScript which should be immediately accessible by Flash Novices, yet powerful enough to deliver results for veteran Flash Developers. {mdm}Script™ 3.0 works seamlessly with ActionScript®, and all of the available commands are entered directly into the Flash/Flex Script Window. Take a look at the simple ActionScript below:
on(release){
// do something
}
The above example is typical of a simple script that would be attached to a Button in Flash. When the user depresses the button, the SWF will respond with the appropriate action (In this case, no action is actually specified).
Let's assume we're building a X-Platform Application, and when the user depresses the button, we want to show a system alert which contains the path to the directory in which the Application is running. Whilst this functionality is impossible with just ActionScript®, it's extremely simple with {mdm}Script™ 3.0:
on(release){
mdm.Dialogs.prompt(mdm.Application.path);
}
The above code now uses just 2 of the 500+ available commands from {mdm}Script™ 3.0 to show a system alert which contains the Path to the Application Directory. Not only does this demonstrate how easily {mdm}Script™ integrates with ActionScript®, but the code is also completely X-Platform, meaning it will work on Windows, Mac OSX and Linux Projectors which are built with Zinc™ 3.0.
